Sandamakmak na e-trash, naibalik na sa Hong Kong

Naibalik na ng Bureau of Customs-Region 10 (BOC-10) araw ng Lunes sa Hong Kong ang 2.56 toneladang electronic waste (e-waste) na ipinadala sa bansa.

Magugunitang dumating ang mga basura na pawang pira-pirasong gadget parts at plastic scraps sa Mindanao Container Port sub-port noong February 2.

Ayon sa BOC, idineklara ng consignee ng shipment na Crowd Win Industrial Limited Corp. na ‘assorted electronic accessories’ ang laman ng container vans ngunit bumulaga na lamang na pinagpira-pirasong mga parte ito ng electronic devices.

Kahapon, isinakay sa cargo ship na SITC Nagoya ang mga basura at ipinadala sa pinanggalingan nito.

Ayon kay MCT sub-port collector John Simon, ang pagpapadala ng naturang hazardous waste sa bansa ay iligal sa ilalim ng mga batas ng Hong Kong, Pilipinas at ng Basel Convention.

“The export of this hazardous waste from Hong Kong in the guise of ‘assorted electronic accessories’ is illegal under the laws of Hong Kong and the Philippines and the Basel Convention,” ani Simon.

Ang re-exportation ng e-waste sa Hong Kong ay ilang araw lamang matapos ding ibalik ng bansa ang 69 containers ng Canadian trash.

Isa anyang tagumpay para sa mga Filipino ang pagbabalik sa mga basura dahil napigilan ang Hong Kong na gawing dumping ground ang Pilipinas.

Kung hindi anya napigilan ng Customs ang Hong Kong trash ay maaaring nasa higit 70 container pa ng mga ito ang nakapasok sa sub-port.
