Duterte kinuwestyon ang pag-angkin ng China sa buong South China Sea
Kinuwestyon ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang pag-angkin ng China sa mga pinag-aagawang teritoryo sa South China.
Kasabay nito ay hiniling ng Pangulo ang pagkumpleto ng code of conduct sa isyu ng maritime dispute.
Sa kanyang talumpati sa 25th International Conference on the Future of Asia ng Nikkei sa Japan, sinabi ni Duterte na mahal niya ang China pero tanong nito, tama ba sa isang bansa na angkinin ang buong karagatan.
“I love China; it has helped us a bit. But it behooves upon us to ask: Is it right for a country to claim the whole ocean? Only just leave the high seas as it was during the old days of international law,” ani Duterte.
Ang pahayag ng Pangulo ay sa gitna ng pagtalakay ng mga miyembro ng Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) sa code of conduct para maresolba ang agawan ng teritoryo sa rehiyon.
Malungkot at naguluhan umano ang Pangulo sa isyu pero umaasa ito na agad nang magkakaroon ng conduct of the seas.
“I am sad and bewildered, not angry because I cannot do anything but I just hope that China will come up with conduct of the seas soon,” dagdag ng Pangulo.
Iginiit naman ni Duterte na hindi dapat makialam ang Estados Unidos sa usapin ukol sa South China Sea dahil wala naman anyang mangyayari kung sasama ito sa talakayan.
“Somebody should reach out to the United States because if you leave it to them to talk, nothing will happen…But there has to be somebody, not identified with any country that China does not like because there will never be a sort of an America, China talking seriously about territories. It will just end up in a shouting match,” pahayag ng Pangulo.
Matatandaan na nagdesisyon na ang United Nations arbitral tribunal pabor sa Pilipinas noong July 2016 sa isyu ng West Philippine Sea partikular sa Scarborough Shoal.
