Nagkaroon ng “accidental firing” sa Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) sa Pasay City kung saan naroon ang tallying ng resulta ng midterm elections.
Ayon kay Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez, nangyari ang insidente habang nagpapalit ng shift ang mga security officers at inililipat ang kanilang caliber .40 pistol sa sunod na mga security personnel.
“We have armed guards in this facility, and a few minutes ago there was a change in shift so naglilipat sila ng firearms, which means that they needed to draw their weapons para mailipat sa susunod na guards. Unfortunately, in that process nagkaroon ng accidental firing,” pahayag ni Jimenez sa press conference.
Wala naman anyang nasugatan sa insidente dahil tumama ang bala ng baril sa lapag sa PICC.
“No damage, no injury, no loss of life, nothing. We are going to review safety procedures for all of our armed personnel,” dagdag ni Jimenez.
Nilinaw din ni Jimenez ang unang pahayag ng security personnel na ang malakas na tunog mula sa tama ng baril ay dahil sa ply wood na tumama sa sahig.
