Nilinaw ni Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) at Davao Archbishop Romulo Valles na walang ineendorsong mga kandidato sa pagkasenador ang kapulungan ng mga obispo.
Ito ay matapos lumabas sa ilang news sites na may 10 kandidato na inendorso ang CBCP para sa halalan sa Lunes.
Sa panayam ng church-run na Radio Veritas, tinawag ni Valles na ‘fake news’ ang kumakalat na balita.
“The CBCP did not make any endorsement from any candidate particularly may mga names yun circulating ‘NO’ that is pure fake news,” ani Valles.
Ayon kay Valles, sensitibo ang papel ng mga obispo at pari at hindi sila maaaring magendorso ng mga kandidato.
Pinabulaanan din ng Archdiocese of Manila-Office of Communications na nag-endorso ng mga kandidato si Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle.
Sa isang sulat pastoral noong Martes (May 7), hinimok lamang ng cardinal ang mga pari na ibahagi ang pagsusuri ng ‘People’s Choice Movement’ sa mga kandidato sa pagkasenador.
Ang naturang grupo na binubuo ng lay leaders ang nag-endorso ng 10 mga kandidato at hindi si Tagle.
Giit ni RCAM-Office of Communications commissioner Fr. Roy Bellen, ang ginawang proseso ng pagsusuri at pagninilay ng ‘People’s Choice Movement’ sa mga kandidato ang ipinanawagan ni Tagle na dapat ay gamiting batayan ng mga botante.
Pinili kasi ang mga inendorsong kandidato ng grupo batay sa sa apat na kategorya na character and honor; competence and abilities; faithfulness to public service; at faithfulness to God, the Constitution and the laws.
Ang sampung napili at tinawag na ‘best senatorial candidates’ ng People’s Choice Movement ay sina:
