Pagtakbo ni Edu Manzano bilang kongresista ng San Juan City kinansela ng Comelec

Kinansela ng Commission of Elections (Comelec) Second Division ang Certificate of Candidacy (COC) ng aktor na si Edu Manzano na kandidato sa pagka-kongresista sa San Juan City.

Binanggit ng Comelec ang isyu ukol sa citizenship ni Manzano bilang dahilan ng pagkansela sa kanyang COC.

“…He committed false material representation on his citizenship…Wherefore, the petition is granted. Respondent Eduardo Luis B. Manzano’s Certificate of Candidacy is hereby declared cancelled and denied due course.”

Ito ay nakasaad sa 15 pahinang desisyon ng Comelec Second Division na pinangungunahan ni Presiding Commissioner Luie Tito Guia.

Nag-dissent o tutol si Guia sa ruling pero natalo ito ng mga boto ng ibang miyembro na sina Socosso Inting at Antonio Kho Jr.

Ang petisyon laban kay Manzano ay inihain ng isang Sophia Patricia Gil na kinatawan ng abogadong si Maria Donnah Guia Lerona Camitan.

Tinutulan ng Comelec ang pahayag ni Manzano na napanatili nito ang kanyang natural born Filipino citizenship kasabay nang paninilbihan nito sa US Armed Forces bilang US citizen.

Sinabi pa sa ruling na walang direktang ebidensya ng “oath of allegiance” ni Manzano na naka-rehistro sa local civil registry sa lugar kung saan ito nakatira kaya hindi ito Filipino citizen noong ito ay maghain ng COC bilang representative ng lone district ng San Juan City.
