PH envoy: China handang imbestigahan ang poaching ng giant clams sa Scarborough
Nagpahayag ng kahandaan ang China na imbestigahan ang iligal na pagkuha ng Chinese fishermen sa giant clams sa Scarborough Shoal ayon kay Philippine Ambassador to China Jose Santiago Sta. Romana.
Sa panayam ng media sa Beijing, sinabi ni Sta. Romana na maging ang China ay hindi sang-ayon sa poaching ng giant clams.
Iginiit pa anya ng China na kapag may namataang Chinese fishermen na nangunguha ng giant clams ay kunin ang ship number, irekord ang oras at kanila itong iimbestigahan.
“The issue of the giant clams is still a challenge. They themselves say that they are against it. And they say if you find, take note of the ship number and the time and they will investigate. And so we’re waiting for the results of that,” ayon kay Sta. Romana.
Ayon sa envoy, ang mass poaching ng clams sa pinag-aagawang teritoryo ay isang ‘major issue of concern’.
Sinabi pa ni Sta. Romana na idineklara na ng China na iligal ang pagkuha sa clams pati ang pagbebenta nito.
“And the Chinese, based on their own statements and their mass media, supposedly have declared the fishing of giant clams and the sale and manufacture, the use and manufacture of giant clams since January 2017,” dagdag ni Sta. Romana.
Magugunitang may ulat tungkol sa mass harvesting ng ilang Chinese vessels sa giants clams sa kabila ng pahayag ng China.
Iginiit ni Sta. Romana na dahil may pagkakaiba sa pahayag at realidad ay may isyu ng accountability at patuloy dapat itong talakayin.
“So between the statement and the reality, you need some accountability, and that is why through diplomacy that’s what we try to achieve,” ayon sa envoy.
