CHR pumalag sa bantang suspensyon ng writ of habeas corpus

Inihayag ng Commission on Human Rights (CHR) na dapat ay protektahan ng gobyerno at hindi alisan ng mga karapatan ang publiko.

Paalala ito ni CHR spokesperson Atty. Jacqueline Ann de Guia kasunod ng banta ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na ipapaaresto niya ang kanyang mga kritiko at kapag napuno na siya ay sususpendihin niya ang writ of habeas corpus.

Sinabi pa ng Pangulo na magdedeklara siya ng revolutionary war hanggang sa pagtatapos ng kanyang termino.

Pero sinabi ni De Guia na mahalagang aspeto ng demokrasya ang bukas at malayang talakayan.

Isa anya itong karapatan sa ilalim ng Konstitusyon at alinsunod sa iba’t ibang batas.

“In this case, criticisms, especially if warranted and is viewed for public interest, should not be used as a justification to curtail other rights, lest we spiral into a dictatorship,” pahayag ng CHR.
