Gobyerno, hindi na papasok sa deal kaugnay ng $20M Marcos assets para sa martial law victims
Hindi na papasok ang gobyerno ng Pilipinas sa settlement agreement para sa pamamahagi ng $20 million assets na nakuha mula sa pamilya Marcos sa Estados Unidos para sa mga biktima ng Martial Law.
Ayon sa Office of the Solicitor General, ito ang napagdesisyunan matapos ang case conference sa mga opisyal ng Department of Justice (DOJ) at Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) noong Marso.
“The three agencies unanimously agreed that, in the best interest of the Republic, it will no longer enter into the settlement agreement,” pahayag ng OSG.
Inatasan ang PCGG na abisuhan ang New York District Court ukol sa desisyon ng pamahalaan.
Ang review sa kasunduan ay kasunod ng paglalabas ng Office of the Executive Secretary ng memorandum noong January 8 na nag-apruba sa hiling ng PCGG na magkaroon ng authority na pumasok sa settlement agreement sa kaso na nakabinbin sa naturang korte sa US.
Pero nakasaad sa memorandum na bago pumasok ang PCGG sa kasunduan, dapat muna itong aprubahan ng OSG at DOJ.
Dahil dito ay nakita na dehado ang gobyerno sa terms ng settlement agreement at hindi ito alinsunod sa mga batas sa bansa kaya ibinasura ito ng OSG.
