Mga kandidato bawal mag-donate para sa konstruksyon ng pampublikong istruktura at simbahan
Binalaan ang lahat ng mga kandidato sa May 13 elections tungkol sa pagbibigay ng donasyon para sa konstruksyon ng mga istruktura na gagamitin ng publiko kabilang na ang mga simbahan.
Sa isang statement pinayuhan ni Commission on Elections Commissioner Luie Guia ang mga kandidato na sumunod sa Section 104 ng Omnibus Election Code na nagtatakda ng regulasyon ukol sa mga donasyon.
Giit ni Guia, ang naturang probisyon ang isa sa mga pinakamahalaga sa Omnibus Election Code.
Ayon sa probisyon, “no candidate, his or her spouse or any relative within the second civil degree of consanguinity or affinity, or his campaign manager, agent or representative shall, during the campaign period, on the day before and on the day of the election, directly or indirectly, make any donation, contribution or gift in cash or in kind, or undertake or contribute to the construction or repair of churches or chapels or any structure for public use or for the use of any religious or civic organization.”
Ang paglabag sa naturang batas ay isang election offense na posibleng magresulta sa pagkakakulong ng isa hanggang anim na taon, diskwalipikasyon sa pagtakbo sa halalan at pagtanggal sa karapatang makaboto.
Ipinaliwanag naman ni Comelec Spokesman James Jimenez na ang regular donations o tithes sa mga simbahan ay exempted sa naturang probisyon.
“Giving tithes or giving donation to the basket being passed around during the Mass…those are allowed,” ani Jimenez.
