Business practices ng dalawang water concessionaires sa Metro Manila ipinarerebisa

Ipinare-review ni House Assistant Majority Leader Bernadette Herrera-Dy sa Philippine Competition Commission ang business practices ng dalawang water concessionaires sa Metro Manila.

Ayon kay Dy, kailangang mabusisi ang detalye ng pagkakaroon ng expansion sa serbisyo ng Maynilad at Manila Water sa ilang lalawigan.

Sa pamamagitan ng joint venture sa provincial water districts ay sakop na ng Maynilad ang Cavite City, Bacoor, Imus, Kawit, Noveleta, Rosario at Cagayan De Oro City.

Ang Manila Water naman ay mayroong share sa Boracay, Batangas, Laguna, Nueva Ecija, Pangasinan, Bulacan at Leyte.

Hangga’t wala anyang malinaw na national water regulatory commission maaaring atasan ang PCC na mag-countercheck sa water companies at bumuo ng anti-monopoly framework.

Sa kasalukuyang ay hindi bahagi ng mandato ng Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) ang pagsita sa monopolistic behavior ng concessionaires at tumatanggap lang ng kopya ng joint venture agreements.
