Media, dapat maging mahinahon sa narco list reporting
Nanawagan ang ilang media groups sa mga mamamahayag na maging mahinahon at mapanuri sa pag-uulat ukol sa narco list ng administrasyong Duterte.
Sa joint statement, nakasaad ang apela ng National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP), Philippine Center of Investigative Journalism (PCIJ), Philippine Press Institute (PPI), Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility (CMFR), Mindanews, Center for Community Journalism and Development (CCJD) at Freedom for Media, Freedom for All Network.
“Instead of rushing to print or air, we now urge all our colleagues to exercise utter prudence and fastidious judgment in evaluating this story… To be sure, the story offers just a list of names, but not the full, substantive details of why or how those on the list had been tagged or plugged as so-called “narco politicians,” ayon sa pahayag.
Reaksyon ito ng mga media groups sa plano ng Malakanyang na ilabas ang listahan ng mga pulitiko na sangkot sa droga kabilang ang 82 incumbent local officials kung saan 64 sa mga ito ay kandidato sa midterm elections sa Mayo.
Ayon pa sa media groups, tila nais ng gobyerno na mag publish at mag broadcast ang news media na hindi iniisip ang pagiging patas, tama at malaya.
Giit ng mga grupo, dapat beripikahin ang mga report bago ilabas ang anila ay tsismis mula kay Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte at mga gabinete nito.
Nakasaad pa sa joint statement na ang ilalabas na narco list ay paghimasok sa privacy at paglabag sa due process.
Imbes na maglabas ng listahan, dapat anilang magkaroon ng case build up, pagsasampa ng kaso at pagpapakulong sa kumpirmadong sangkot sa droga.
