93,500 katao inaasahang lalahok sa nationwide earthquake drill ngayong araw

Inaasahang aabot sa humigit-kumulang 93,500 katao ang lalahok sa 1st Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) ngayong araw ng Huwebes, February 21.

Ayon kay National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) Administrator Usec. Ricardo Jalad, maraming komunidad, eskwelahan, ospital, business establishments at sectoral groups sa buong bansa ang lalahok sa drill.

Sa aktibidad ay sasanayin ang publiko sakaling tumama ang isang magnitude 8.2 na lindol.

Ipapabatid sa mga tao ang idinulot ng lindol noong 1948 sa Panay Island na sumira sa mga Spanish-era churches, mga tulay at mga establisyimento.

Magsisimula mamayang alas-2:00 ng hapon ang 1st quarter nationwide drill at ang ceremonial venue ay sa Dinagyang Grandstand sa Iloilo.

Keynote speaker si Defense Undersecretary Reynaldo Mapagu na kinatawan ni NDRRMC Chairperson Secretary Delfin Lorenzana.

Bukod sa ‘duck, cover and hold’ kabilang sa drill ang evacuation scenarios; paglalatag ng Emergency Operations Center; search, rescue, and retrieval operations; emergency medical response; fire suppression at iba pa.

Ang nationwide drill ay isinasagawa ‘quarterly’ sa pangunguna ng Office of Civil Defense (OCD) para itaas ang kaalaman ng mga Filipino sa panahon ng sakuna.
