Inutusan ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang mga otoridad na hayaang makabalik sa bansa si National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) chief negotiator Fidel Agcaoili para sa peace talks sa gobyerno.
Noong Nobyembre ay hindi itinuloy ni Agcaoili, NDFP senior adviser Luis Jalandoni at miyembro ng negotiating panel na si Coni Ledesma ang pag-uwi para sa informal talks sa pamahalaan dahil sa problema sa seguridad.
Binanggit ni Jalandoni ang pahayag ni Interior Secretary Eduardo Año na aarestuhin ang mga opisyal ng NDFP pagdating nila sa bansa dahil mayroong arrest warrants labang sa mga ito.
Pero sa talumpati sa Davao City ay sinabi ng Pangulo na nagpahiwatig si Agcaoili na muling makipag-usap sa gobyerno kaya inutusan nito ang militar ay pulisya na pabayaan lang itong makabalik.
Sinabi pa ng Pangulo na bukas na naman siya sa usapang pangkapayapaan sa mga rebeldeng komunista ilang buwan matapos suspendihin ang peace talks sa NDFP.
“After all, we’re on a waiting period about the appropriate time to talk about peace. I am not that cruel. I suggest that we do not make any demands. We go to the table and to talk about it. And if he approaches something which is not acceptable and I would say, ‘No, I cannot accept that,” pahayag ni Duterte.
Una nang sinabi ni Duterte na pwedeng ipagpatuloy ang peace talks sa kundisyon na itigil ng NPA ang pagkolekta ng revolutionary tax, bagay na tinanggihan ng grupo dahil kailangan umano ng pondo ng anila ay “peoples’ government.”
