Nagpaalala ang Commission on Elections (Comelec) sa mga mall owners na bawal ang mga election propaganda sa mga sinehan.
Kasabay ng unang araw ng campaign period kahapon para sa national candidates ay nagpadala ng sulat si Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez sa mga mall owners.
Sa kanyang liham, sinabi ni Jimenez na sa ilalim ng Comelec Resolution 10488 o ang ‘Fair Elections Act’, bawal ang pagganap sa isang karakter ng mga kandidato sa eleksyon sa mga palabas, display at exhibit sa mga sinehan, television stations, video sharing sites, social media network o anumang public forum o pelikula, documentary at maging sa concerts.
“To show, display or exhibit in a theater, through a television station, a video sharing site, social media network, or any public forum any movie, cinematography or documentary, including concert or any type of performance portraying the life or biography of a candidate, or in which a character is portrayed by an actor or media personality who is himself or herself a candidate,” ayon sa Comelec resolution.

Ibinahagi ni Jimenez ang naturang liham sa Twitter at sinabing dapat makipagtulungan ang mall owners para sa pagpapatupad ng campaign rules.
Noong Lunes ay nagpaalam na ang karakter na si ‘Romulo’ sa ‘Ang Probinsyano’ na ginampanan ni Lito Lapid dahil siya ay kandidato sa May elections.
Matatandaang noong Enero nagbabala rin ang Comelec na mahaharap sa parusa sa ilalim ng election laws ang mga sinehan na magpapalabas ng pelikula tungkol sa buhay ni dating Philippine National Police chief Ronald dela Rosa.
