PNP kinastigo ng CHR dahil sa higpit ng pagbabantay kay De Lima

Kinastigo ng Commission on Human rights ang Philippine National Police dahil sa umano’y sobrang higpit na pagbabantay nila sa nakakulong na si Sen. Leila De Lima.

Sa isang pahayag, sinabi ni CHR Spokesperson Jacqueline De Guia na hindi parehas ang trato ng PNP kay De Lima kumpara sa ibang high profile inmate sa loob ng PNP Custodial Center sa Camp Crame.

Inihalimbawa ng opisyal ang sangkatutak na guwardiya na nagbabantay kay De Lima.

Hindi rin nagustuhan ng tagapagsalita ng CHR ang ginagawa ng PNP na pagharang sa ilang miyembro ng media na gustong makausap ang mambabatas.

“The Senator has consistently been heavily guarded and covered by police escorts with their extended hands in attempt to hide her from the public and media during her attendance at court hearings,” dagdag pa ni De Guia.

Ipinaalala rin ng opisyal sa PNP ang United Nations Basic Principles for the Treatment of Prisoners na nagsasabing: “except for those limitations that are demonstrably necessitated by the fact of incarceration, all prisoners shall retain the human rights and fundamental freedoms set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.”

Si De Lima ay nakakulong sa Camp Crame dahil sa mga kasong nag-uugnay sa kanya sa illegal drug trade noong siya pa ang kalihim ng Department of Justice.
