Isang estudyanteng Pinoy, naaresto sa HK dahil sa mga baton sa kanyang check-in luggage

Pinaalalahanan ng Department of Foreign Affairs o DFA ang mga Pilipino na bibiyahe patungong Hong Kong na tiyaking wala silang dalang anumang “restricted items” sa kani-kanilang bagahe.

Inisyu ng DFA ang pahayag makaraang iulat ng Philippine Consulate General sa Hong Kong ang pag-aresto at pagkulong sa isang Filipino student.

Ayon kay Consul General Antonio Morales, nadiskubre ng airport authorities sa check-in luggage ng estudyante ang dalawang extendable batons. 

Patungong Canada ang estudyante na pinigilang makaalis noong January 8, 2019, pero napayagan ding lumabas ng Hong Kong noong January 11, 2019 matapos ang legal representation at assistance ng Consulate General.

Paalala ni Morales, ang mga personal defence weapons gaya ng stun guns, pepper spray, tear gas, extendable batons, flick knives at knuckledusters ay itinuturing na “dangerous weapons” sa Hong Kong.

Ang unlicensed possession ng mga ito ay may parusang multa na 100,000 Hong Kong dollars at pagkakakulong ng limang taon.
