Dating Sen. Mirriam Defensor-Santiago binigyan ng parangal sa Malacañang

Pinangunahan ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang conferment of posthumous Quezon Service Cross Award kay dating Sen. Mirriam Defensor-Santiago.

Ang Quezon Service Cross Award ay ang pinakamataas na parangal na iginagawa ng pamahalaan sa isang indibiduwal na may malaking naiaambag sa bayan.

Ilang beses na sinabi ng pangulo ang kanyang paghanga sa dating mambabatas.

Nagbalik-tanaw pa ang pangulo noong 2016 presidential elections kung saan isa sa kanyang mga nakalaban si dating Sen. Santiago.

Ayon sa pangulo ikinakampanya niya si Santiago habang ikinampanya naman siya ng senadora.

Inspirasyon aniya si Santiago sa mga susunod na henerasyon ng mga Filipino.

Present sa nasabing parangal ang pamilya ng dating mambabatas sa pangunguna ni dating DILG Usec. Jun Santiago.

Mula nang maitatag ang award noong 1946, lima pa lamang ang nagagawaran nito na kinabibilangan nina dating UN Secretary General  Carlos P. Romulo noong, April 12, 1951, dating Pangulong Emilio Aguinaldo noong June 12, 1956 at dating Pangulong Ramon Magsaysay, July 4, 1957 (posthumous), former Senator Benigno Aquino Jr., August 21, 2004 (posthumous at dating Secretary of the Interior and Local Government Jesse Robredo, November 26, 2012 (posthumous).
