Nagsimula na ang countdown para sa 2019 Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games).
Pinangunahan nina Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Butch Ramirez, Philippine Olympic Committee President Ricky Vargas at Philippine SEA Games Organizing Committee Chairman Alan Peter Cayetano ang seremonyal na pagbubukas ng countdown sa Bayanihan Park sa Angeles, City Pampanga.
Dinaluhan din ito ng sports officials mula sa 11 participating countries.
Makasaysayan para sa Pilipinas ang 2019 Sea Games dahil ang bansa ang host ng naturang regional games.
Ito ang ikaapat na beses na maghohost ang Pilipinas para sa SEA Games.
Sa ginanap na seremonya kahapon ay opisyal nang ipinakita ang kontrobersyal na SEA Games logo na nauna nang umani ng batikos dahil sa umano’y kakulangan sa creativity.
Ipinasilip din sa mga bisita ang gagamiting Athletic and Aquatic Center na magiging main vanue ng karamihan sa 56 sports na paglalaban sa susunod na taon.
Ang iba naman sa mga palaro ay gaganapin sa Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
Umaasa si Vargas na makakapasok ang Pilipinas sa Top 3 ng palaro.
“One of our goals is excellent performance, which means ang goal is to at least improve dramatically our performance in the last Southeast Asian Games, so what we’re looking at is to be able to improve it all the way to at least the top 3,” ani Vargas.
