‘Trapo’ at ‘bongga’ pasok na sa bagong edisyon ng Oxford English Dictionary

Ilang mga salitang Filipino ang pasok na sa ilalabas na bagong edisyon ng Oxford English Dictionary (OED).

Pasok sa bagong edisyon ng OED ang mga salitang Pinoy na ‘trapo’ at ‘bongga’.

Inilarawan ang ‘trapo’ bilang pulitiko na sangkot sa korapsyon. (politician perceived as belonging to a conventional and corrupt ruling class)

Sinabi ng OED na ang ‘trapo’ sa Spanish ay basahan pero sa Pilipinas, pinaiksi ang salitang ‘traditional politician’ at tinawag na ‘trapo’.

Ang salitang ‘bongga’ naman ay binigyang kahulugan na extravagant, impressive, stylish o excellent.

Kabilang sa 1,400 na mga bagong salita na napasa sa bagong edisyon ng OED ang mga Filipino culinary words gaya ng ‘bagoong,’ ‘bihon,’ ‘calamansi,’ ‘carinderia,’ ‘ensaimada,’ ‘palay,’ ‘panciteria,’ ‘sorbetes’ at ‘turon.’
