Total mining ban itutuloy ni Duterte

Masusing pinag-aaralan ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte kung paano ipatutupad ng total mining ban sa buong bansa.

Ito ang inamin ng pangulo sa kanyang pagsasalita sa Asia Pacific Association of Gasentrology forum na ginanap sa Lapu-Lapu City sa Cebu kagabi.

Bukod sa hindi naman kumikita nang malaki ang pamahalaan mula sa mga mining firm ikinatwiran ng pangulo na sinisira lang ng pagmimina ang kapaligiran.

Binigyang-diin rin ng pangulo na posibleng maulit pa ang mga trahedya tulad nang nangyari sa Itogon, Benguet kapag hindi naisa-ayos ang problema sa pagmimina.

Ikinatwiran pa ng pangulo na pwedeng makuha sa ibang sources ng pamahalaan ang taunang kita ng gobyerno na P70 Billion mula sa mining activities sa pamahalaan.

Pero aminado ang pangulo na kontra sa kanyang plano ang kanyang mga economic managers.

“Now, if I impose stringent measures, well, they would say that — your — my advisor would say, “Go easy on this because it’s a 70-billion industry a year in taxes.” So you begin now to make a sort of a mental exercise of how much would you lose in terms of totality of the peso as against the earnings by way of taxes from mining companies,” dagdag pa ng pangulo.
