Sa August 31 na isasagawa ang oathtaking ni Chief Justice Teresita Leonardo-De Castro.
Ayon kay Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go, manunumapa si De Castro sa harap ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte sa Malacañang.
Nagpaabot ng mensahe si De Castro sa Office of the President na agad na siyang manunumpa sa puwesto oras na matanggap na ng Korte Suprema ang kanyang appointment paper.
Iginigiit pa ni De Castro na ito ay para makapag-simula na rin siya sa kanyang trabaho bilang punong mahistrado.
Si De Castro ay manunungkulan lamang ng apatnapu’t isang araw bilang punong mahistrado hanggang sa pagsapit ng kanyang mandatory age of retirement na 70 sa October 8.
Sa panayam kaninang umaga sa paggunita sa National Heroes Day, sinabi ni Pangulong Duterte na napili niya si De Castro dahil ito ang isa sa pinaka-senior sa hanay ng mga mahistrado.
Magugunitang tumanggi sa nominasyon si Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio.
Ayon pa sa pangulo, “I am not familiar with any of them actually, wala akong kakilalang justice na personal. Truthfully, I have not talked to anyone there.”
