Justice Teresita De Castro, itinalaga bilang bagong SC chief justice
Si Associate Justice Teresita De Castro ang napili ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte bilang bagong chief justice ng Korte Suprema.
Kinumpirma ito ni Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra na isa sa ex-officio member ng Judicial and Bar Council (JBC).
Si De Castro ay isa tatlong pangalan na kasama sa shortlist na isinumite ng JBC sa Palasyo ng Malakanyang na kinabibilangan din nina Associate Justice Diosdado Peralta at Lucas Bersamin.
Si De Castro at Peralta ay nakatanggap ng anim na boto mula sa JBC habang si Bersamin ay Lima.
Ayon kay Guevarra, ito ay unang inanunsyo ni Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go.
Nakatakdang aniyang ilabas ng Palasyo ang official appointment ni De Castro sa darating na Martes, August 28.
Papalitan ni De Castro si dating Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno na pinatalsik ng mga kapwa nito mahistrado sa pamamagitan ng pagpabor sa quo warranto petition na isinampa ng Office of the Solicitor General (OSG).
Si De Castro ay dating presiding justice sa Sandiganbayan at appointee sa Korte Suprema ni dating Pangulong Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
