Impeachment case vs 4 na mahistrado, walang epekto sa CJ nomination
Naniniwala ang isang miyembro ng Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) na hindi makaaapekto ang impeachment complaint na isinampa sa apat na associate justices ng Supreme Court sa kanilang nominasyon sa pagka-chief justice.
Mandato ng JBC na mamili ng mga aplikante para sa posisyon ng punong mahistrado at sa top posts sa Office of the Ombudsman.
Kinontra ni Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra, dating officio member ng JBC, ang pahayag ni Rep. Edcel Lagman na dapat madiskwalipika sa CJ post sina Associate Justices Teresita Leonardo-de Castro, Diosdado Peralta, Lucas Bersamin at Andres Reyes Jr. dahil sa impeachment complaint na isinampa laban sa kanila sa Kamara.
Paliwanag ni Guevarra, ang pagsampa lang ng impeachment complaint, na hindi pareho sa kasong kriminal at administratibo ay walang anumang epekto sa nominasyon ng apat na mahistrado sa chief justice position.
Nakatakda sa Biyernes ang deliberasyon ng JBC para alamin kung sino ang kasama sa shortlist na isusumite kay Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte.
