Kauna-unahang cube satellite ng Pilipinas, nai-deploy na sa kalawakan

Lumikha ng kasaysayan sa space and science technology program ng bansa ang launching sa kalawakan ng kauna-unahang cube satellite ng Pilipinas.

Isinagawa kahapon ng Department of Science and Technology at ng University of the Philippines (U.P) ang launching ng Maya-1.

Ayon kay DOST Sec. Fortunato dela Peña may sukat lamang ang cube satellite na 10-by-10 centimeters at kayang kumuha ng mga larawan ng mundo mula sa kalawakan.

Ang Maya-1 ay binuo ng alumni ng U.P na sina Joven Javier at Adrian Salces sa ilalim ng Philippine Scientific Earth Observation Microsatellite Program.

Ayon kay UP President Danilo Concepcion, ipinapakita ng tagumpay na ito ang galing ng premier university ng bansa at ng mga Filipino.

Kaya ng Maya-1 na kumuha ng mga larawan ng agricultural crops, kagubatan, ilog at kahit mga pamayanan na mahalaga sa mga ahensya ng gobyerno ayon kay dela Peña.

Ang Maya-1 ay ang ikalawang satellite na nai-deploy sa kalawakan matapos ang Diwata-1.

Plano pa ng DOST na mag-launch ng isa pang microsatellite na papangalanang Diwata-2 bago matapos ang taon.
