Uumpisahan ng Department of Tourism bago matapos ang 2018 ang rehabilitasyon ng sikat na tourist spot ng Pilipinas na Banaue rice terraces.
Katunayan, nagtungo si Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat sa Ifugao noong Biyernes at kinausap ang mga lokal na opisyal tungkol sa Banaue rice rerraces Restoration Project.
Ayon naman kay Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) Chief Operating Officer Pocholo Paragas ang nasabing proyekto ay popondohan ng kongreso ng P80 Million.
Bahagi ng proyekto ang rehabilitasyon ng Tieza-operated na Banaue Hotel at ang pagpapatibay ng mga pader ng rice terraces na nasira na dahil sa panahon.
Ang Banaue rice terraces ay ginawa ng mga mamamayan sa Ifugao dalawang libong taon na ang nakakaraan.
Base sa report ng lokal na pamahalaan ng Banaue, aabot sa 500 ektarya na ng pamosong tourist destination ang nasira o inabandona na.
