186 local government officials inalisan ng police powers
Umabot sa 186 local chief executives ang tinaggalan ng police powers mula nang maupo si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte, ayon sa Department of Interior and Local Government.
Sa bilang na ito, 178 ang alkalde habang walo ang provincial governors.
Ipinahayag ni DILG officer-in-charge Eduardo Año na inalisan ng police powers ang mga opisyal dahil sa umano’y ugnayan sa kalakalan ng iligal na droga, kabiguang tugunan ang terorismo o pagsuporta sa mga teroristang grupo.
Maliban dito, 156 lokal na opisyal naman ang sinuspinde o sinibak dahil sa grave misconduct, serious dishonesty, neglect of duty, conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service, abuse of authority at mga iregularidad.
Sinabi ni Año na resulta ito ng mga programa ng gobyerno para maisuplong ng publiko ang mga reklamo ang mga tiwaling opisyal. Halimbawa na lamang nito ang Hotline 8888 at Bantay Korapsyon.
Dagdag ni Año, nakatulong din ang pakikipag-ugnayan ng DILG sa civil society organizations at regional dialogues sa mga komunidad para matiyak na ginagawa ng local government units ang kanilang trabaho.
