$5.1-M forfeiture case laban kay Benjamin Romualdez ibinasura ng Sandiganbayan

Ibinasura ng Sandiganbayan ang $5.1 Million forfeiture case laban kay Benjamin “Kokoy” Romualdez, ang namayapang kapatid ni dating First Lady at Ilocos Norte 2nd District Rep. Imelda Marcos.

Ang naturang kaso ay inihain ng Office of the Ombudsman noong August, 2011 laban kay Romualdez at kanyang asawang si Juliette.

Sa petisyon ng Ombudsman, pinababawi nito sa gobyerno ang $5.19 Million na halaga ng umano’y ill-gotten wealth ng mag-asawang Romualdez.

Ayon sa 4th Division ng Sandiganbayan, ibinasura nito ang kaso dahil hindi dapat ang Ombudsman kundi ang Office of the Solicitor General ang dapat na maghain ng forfeiture case.

Paliwanag ng Sandiganbayan, nakuha kasi ni Benjamin Romualdez ang naturang ari-arian nang siya’y gobernador ng Leyte at Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Peking, Jeddah at Washington D.C.

Ayon sa resolusyon ng korte, saklaw lamang ng Ombudsman ang mga kasong may kaugnayan sa ill-gotten wealth na nakuha matapos ang February 25, 1986.
