Umaapela ang Malacañang kay ousted Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno na tuldukan na at ituring nang final chapter ng drawn out drama ang pagpapatalsik sa kanya ng Supreme Court.
Ayon kay Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo, si Sereno rin ang gumawa ng kanyang kapalaran.
Katwiran pa ni Panelo, maaring malupit ang batas pero yun ang batas na dapat na sundin sa Pilipinas.
Ipinaliwanag pa ng opisyal na nakasaad sa Konstitusyon na ang Korte Supreme ang maaring mag-interpret ng batas.
Dagdag pa ni Panelo, “The Supreme Court’s decision highlights the paramount importance and necessity of integrity and accountability of public officials despite the entry of partisan politics by those who seek to polarize the people”.
Matatandaang pinatalsik kahapon ng Supreme Court si Sereno sa botong 8-6 dahil sa hindi pagsusumite ng kanyang Statement of Assets Liabilities and Networth (SALN).
“The President stays committed to his constitutional task in serving and protecting the people and to ensure that all laws are faithfully observed, and effect genuine reforms in the bureaucracy for the betterment of the Filipino people”, dagdag pa ni Panelo.
