Nominasyon para sa bagong punong mahistrado hindi pa bukas ayon sa JBC
Hindi pa binubuksan ng Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) ang pagtanggap ng aplikasyon at nominasyon para sa magiging susunod na chief justice ng Korte Suprema.
Ayon sa ulat ng Inquirer.net, nagpasya ang mga miyembro ng JBC na hintayin muna na maging pinal ang desisyon ng Supreme Court sa quo warranto petition laban sa napatalsik na si Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno.
Binanggit ng source ng Inquirer.net na ito ang napagkasunduan ng JBC.
Noong May 11, 2018 nang ilabas ng Korte Suprema ang desisyon na pumapabor sa quo warranto petition na inihain ni Solicitor General Jose Calida laban kay Sereno.
Amg JBC ay pinamumunuan ni Senior Associate Justice at ngayon ay acting Chief Justice Antonio Carpio bilang chairman.
Habang pawang ex-officio members naman sina Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra, Senator Richard Gordon, at Oriental Mindoro Rep. Reynaldo Umali.
Ang mga regular members nito ay sina retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Jose Catral Mendoza nilang kinatawan ng mga hukom, Atty. Jose Mejia na kumakatawan sa Academe, Atty. Milagros Fernan-Cayosa na kumakatawan sa Integrated Bar of the Philippines, at si retired Judge Toribio Ilao na kumakatawan naman sa private sector.
Tumatayo namang consultant ng JBC sina retired Chief Justices Hilario Davide Jr., Artemio V. Panganiban at Reynato Puno gayundin si Deputy Court Administrators Raul Villanueva at Jenny Lind Aldecoa-Delorino.
