NASA naglunsad ng bagong planet-hunting spacecraft

Naglunsad ang NASA ng bagong planet-hunting spacecraft na Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite o TESS.

Pinangunahan ang paglulunsad ng SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket mula sa Cape Canaveral, Florida dakong 6:51, Miyerkules ng gabi, oras sa Amerika.

Layon ng satellite na makapag-scan sa labas ng solar system ng higit sa 85 porsyento para makahanap ng pinakamalapit at pinakamakinang na bituin.

Anila, ito ang sinyales na may mga planetang umiikot sa makikitang bituin na maaaring mabuhay ang mga tao.

Aabot sa $337 milyon ang kabuuang halaga ng naturang satellite na may kaparehong sukat sa washing machine.

Ayon sa NASA, inaasahang aabot sa 20,000 planeta ang madidiskubre ng TESS kasama ang mahigit 50 Earth-sized planets at 500 planetang mas maliit ng dalawang beses sa Earth.
