Seryoso si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte sa pagtanggap ng Rohingya refugees.
Ayon kay Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque, noon pa man mayroon nang open door policy for refugees ang Pilipinas.
Inihalimbawa pa ni Roque ang ginawang pagtanggap noon ng Pilipinas sa Vietnamese refugees kung saan halos lahat ay binigyan ng refugee status.
Kapag natuloy aniya ang pagpasok ng Rohingya refugees, maaring gamitin ang Bataan na processing area.
May mga imprastraktura na aniya sa lugar na ginamit din noon na processing area para sa mga Vietnamese refugees.
“The President always a serious of with what he says. Ang sinasabi nga lang namin, don’t take him literally but take him seriously. The Philippines has always had an open door policy for refugees. Kung naaalala ninyo iyong mga Vietnamese refugees, talagang tayo po ang naging processing zone! Halos lahat ng refugees na binigyan ng refugees’ status ay dumaan muna sa Pilipinas. So it is in that kind of tradition that the President stated that we’re willing to open our doors to Rohingya refugees,” ayon kay Roque
Matatandaang aabot sa 400,000 refugees ang pumasok sa Morong, Bataan noong 1980 matapos sumiklab ang giyera sa Vietnam.
