Inaprubahan na ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang rekomendasyon ng Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) at ng Department of Tourism (DOT) na isara ang Boracay Island ng anim na buwan simula sa Abril 26.
Ito ay para bigyang daan ang rehabilitasyon dahil sa walang maayos na sewerage system ang mga itinayong establisyemento sa isla.
Ayon kay Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque, ginawa ng Pangulo ang pagpapasya sa 24th Cabinet meeting ngayong gabi sa Palasyo.
“Boracay closed for 6 months effective April 26,” pahayag ni Roque.
Ayon kay Roque, total closure sa mga turista ang isla ng Boracay.
Sinabi naman ni Senior Deputy Executive Secretary Menardo Guevarra na naging mahaba-haba ang diskusyon sa Cabinet meeting sa usapin sa Boracay.
“DENR/DOT/DILG proposal approved after an exhaustive discussion,” pahayag ni Guevarra.
Sinabi pa ni Guevarra na gagamitin na ang calamity funds para maayudahan ang mga maapektuhang manggagawa.
“Calamity funds will be activated to tide affected workers over,” pahayag ni Guevarra.
