Rappler sinampahan ng P133M tax evasion case ng BIR

Nagsampa ng tax evasion ang Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) sa Department of Justice (DOJ) laban sa Rappler. Kabilang sa mga kinasuhan ng paglabag sa National Internal Revenue Code ang Rappler Holdings Corporation kasama ang presidente nitong si Maria Ressa at treasurer na si James Bitanga. Ayon sa reklamo ng BIR, aabot sa P133.84 million ang kabuuang tax liability ng BIR para sa taxable year na 2015. Kinabibilangan ito ng mahigit P91 million na income tax at mahigit P42 million na value added tax. Aupm sa BIR, bumili ng shares ang RHC sa Rappler Incorporated na ang halaga ay aabot sa P19.25 million. Matapos ito, nag-isyu ang  RHC ng Philippine Depository Receipts (PDRs) na nagkakahalaga ng P181 million sa dalawang foreign entities. Wala umanong binayarang income tax at VAT ang RHC sa kinita nito sa nasabing PDR transactions.
