Quo warranto petition vs Sereno walang epekto sa impeachment process – Umali

Hindi makakaapekto sa impeachment proceedings ang quo warranto petition na inihain ng Office of the Solicitor General laban kay Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno.

Ayon kay Oriental Mindoro Rep. Reynaldo Umali, valid pa rin ang appointment ni Sereno noong 2012 hangga’t hindi ito binabawi ng Korte Suprema.

Paliwanag ni Umali, kung pagbigyan ng kataastaasang hukuman ang kahilingan ng OSG na ipawalang-bisa ang appointment ni Sereno, saka lang magiging “functus officio” o wala nang bisa ang impeachment proceedings.

Sinabi ng mambabatas na hiwalay at malaya ang dalawang hakbang na may magkaikaiba ring batayan.
