Pumanaw na si Sorsogon bishop emeritus Jesus Varela sa edad na 90.

Si Varela ay nasawi sa San Juan de Dios Hospital, alas 2:30 ng madaling araw ng Biyernes.

Maliban sa paninilbihan bilang Obispo ng Sorsogon Diocese, si Varela ay naging presidente rin ng Federation of Catholic Broadcasters.

Naging chairman din si Varela ng Commission on Family and Life ng Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).
