Ipinag-utos ng Department of Agriculture ang importation ban sa mga birds at poultry products sa ilang mga lugar sa Netherlands, Saudi Arabia at Russia bunsod ng outbreak ng virus.
Tatlong magkakaibang memorandum ang inilabas ni Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol para sa importation ban.
Ayon sa kalihim, mayroong outbreak ng H5N6 Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) virus sa Biddinghuizen, Flevoland sa The Netherlands na nakakaapekto sa mga pato.
Sinabi ni Piñol na noong pang December 10, 2017 ay nagsumite na ng ulat sa World Health Organization for Animal Health (OIE) ukol sa outbreak ang Chief Veterinary officer ng Ministry of Economic Affairs ng The Netherlands na si Dr. Christianne Bruschke.
Mayroon ding outbreak ng HSN8 HPAI na nakakaapekto sa mga ibon sa Riyadh, Al Kharj, at Al Mazahenyia, Saudi Arabia habang HSN2 HPAI naman ang strain ng flu na nakakaapekto sa mga ibon sa Kostromskaya, Russia.
Ang mga naturang outbreak ay naiulat na rin sa OIE noon pang December 22 at 29.
Nasa ilalim ng importation ban ang domestic at wild birds at ang kanilang mga produktong poultry meat, mga itlog, sisiw at semen.
Iginiit ng DA na kailangang mapigilan ang pagpasok ng bird flu virus sa bansa upang maprotektahan ang kalusugan ng local poultry population ng Pilipinas.
