Presyo ng kuryente, nagbabadyang tumaas dahil sa TRAIN Law
Nakikita ng Manila Electric Company (MERALCO) ang posibilidad ng pagtataas ng presyo ng kuryente bunsod ng implementasyon ng Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) Law.
Ayon kay Meralco Head of Utility Economics, Lawrence Fernandez, ang naturang pagtaas ng presyo ng kuryente ay dahil sa pagpapatupad ng coal excise tax at pagtatanggal sa exemption ng National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) sa Value-Added Tax (VAT).
Dahil dito, tinatayang nasa walong sentimo kada kilowatt-hour (kwh) ang nakikitang itataas ng presyo ng kuryente.
Sa ilalim ng Republic Act 9511, exempted ang NGCP sa VAT, ngunit naibasura ang exemption sa Section 86 ng TRAIN na nagpapataw sa NGCP ng VAT sa ilalim ng National Internal Revenue Code (NIRC).
Nakikipag-ugnayan pa naman anya ang MERALCO sa mga power generation companies ukol sa coal stock.
Gayunman, pasok na ang exemption ng NGCP sa VAT noong January 1 na simula ng implementasyon ng TRAIN law kaya papalo na ang VAT sa transmission wheeling charges ng mga consumer ayon kay Fernandez.
