Coast Guard Commandant William Melad, 24 na iba pa, pinatawan ng suspensyon ng Ombudsman

Ipinag-utos ng Office of the Ombudsman ang anim na buwang preventive suspension ng Office of the Ombudsman si Philippine Coast Guard commandant Rear Admiral William Melad at 24 na iba pang opisyal ng PCG.

Ito ay kaugnay sa maanomalyang pagbili ng office supplies at information technology equipment ng coast guard na nagkakahalaga ng P67.5 million noong 2015.

Sa kautusan ni Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales, maliban kay Melad sakop din ng suspension order sina Rear Admiral Cecil Chen, Commodores Enrico Efren Evangelista, Jr. at Aaron Reconquista; Commanders John Esplana, William Arquero, Jude Thaddeus Besinga, Roben De Guzman, Angel Lobaton IV, Ferdinand Panganiban, Joselito Quintas, Ivan Roldan, Rommel Supangan, George Ursabia, Jr., Ferdinand Velasco, Wilfred Burgos at Allen Dalangin; Captains Joeven Fabul, Angelito Gil, Ramon Lopez, Christopher Villacorte, Lt. Junior Grade Mark Franklin Lim II, Lt. Mark Larsen Mariano at Accounting Head Rogelio Caguioa.

Bagaman retirado na, kasama din sa iniutos na masuspinde si dating Coast Guard commandant Vice Admiral Rodolfo Isorena.

Ang mga nabanggit na opisyal ng PCG ay nahaharap sa kasong grave misconduct, serious dishonest at conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service dahil sa iregularidad sa cash advances.

Sa imbestigasyon ng Ombudsman, ang cash advances ay ginamit sa pagbili ng office supplies at mga information technology equipment nang hindi sumusunod sa tamang procurement regulations.

Gumamit pa ng mga pekeng liquidation documents ang mga opisyal para sa mga ginawang transaksyon.

Inatasan ni Morales si Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade na agad ipatupad ang preventive suspension order.
