Sa post sa official twitter account ng Mataas na Hukuman unang kinumpirma ang pagpanaw ng dating punong mahistrado, na naging kontrobersyal matapos ma-impeach dahil sa maling deklarasyon sa kaniyang SAL-N. “The PIO has just been informed by the family of former CJ RenatoC. Corona that he has passed away this morning,” nakasaad sa twitter account ng Supreme Court.
Pumanaw si Corona sa edad na 67 sa Medical City kaninang ala 1:48 ng madaling araw.
Matagal nang maysakit na diabetes si Corona at dalawang beses nang sumailalim sa bypass surgery.
Naging associate justice ng SC si Corona matapos i-appoint ni Pangulong Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo noong April 9, 2002 at naging Punong Mahistrado noong May 12, 2010 matapos magretiro si dating Chief Justice Reynato Puno.
Noong December 12, 2011 nang ma-impeach si Corona at May 29, 2012 nang siya ay mapatunayang guilty sa paglabag sa Article II ng Articles of Impeachment dahil sa kabiguang ilahad ang totoo sa kaniyang statement of assets, liabilities and net worth.
