Dahil sa nagpapatuloy na sigalot sa West Philippine Sea at sa naganap na insidente sa Mamasapano, bumagsak ang ranking ng Pilipinas sa Global Peace Ranking ng Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP).
Sa nasabing report, mula sa 134 noong 2014, bumaba sa 141 ang ranking ng Pilipinas ngayon taon. Dahil dito, pumangalawa na ang Pilipinas sa may pinakamababang ranking sa Asya kasunod ng North Korea.
Nakasaad sa report na kapwa naapektuhan ang ranking ng Pilipinas, China at Vietnam dahil sa territorial dispute.
“Although the likelihood of further military skirmishes in the disputed waters is high, a large-scale military engagement remains unlikely. “The continuing conflict risks intervention from China, which would escalate the situation further,” ayon sa report ng IEP.
Binanggit din sa report ang paglala ng internal conflicts sa pagitan ng pamahalaan at ng mga rebel groups.
Partikular na tinukoy ang Mamasapano incident sa Maguindanao kung saan umabot sa 44 na Special Action Force Members ang nasawi.
Nanguna naman bilang most peaceful country sa buong mundo ang Iceland na sinundan ng Denmark, Austria, New Zealand, Switzerland, Finland, Canada, Japan, Australia at Czech Republic.
Sa buong mundo, ang Syria pa rin ang least peaceful country, sinundan ng Iraq, Afghanistan, South Sudan, Central African Republic, Somalia, Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Pakistan at North Korea. / Dona Dominguez-Cargullo
