AJ Del Castillo pamumunuan ang JBC para sa screening ng susunod na CJ
Si Associate Justice Mariano del Castillo ang mamumuno sa Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) para kilatisin ang mga nagnanais na maging susunod na punong mahistrado ng Korte Suprema.
Ito ay kasunod ng pagreretiro ni Chief Justice Teresita Leonardo-De Castro.
Ayon kay JBC ex-officio member at Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra, ang most senior SC justice na hindi nag-apply para sa pagka-CJ ay ang mangunguna sa deliberasyon para sa posisyon.
Si Del Castillo ay isa sa limang most senior justices ng SC ngunit hindi tinanggap ang kanyang automatic nomination dahil sa pagiging chairman ng 2018 Bar examinations.
Sina acting CJ Antonio Carpio, justices Lucas Bersamin, Estela Perlas-Bernabe at Lucas Bersamin ay tinanggap ang kanilang automatic nomination.
Habang si Associate Justice Andres Reyes Jr. naman na isang junior magistrate ay tinanggap ang nominasyon sa kanya ni Sandiganbayan Justice Raoul Victorino.
Nauna nang inanunsyo ng JBC ang pagpapalawig sa nominasyon para sa pagka-CJ at itinakda na ang deadline sa October 26.
