Sotto hindi kumbinsido na ‘praktikal’ ang pagpapaliban sa 2019 elections

Hindi sang-ayon si Senate President Vicente Sotto III sa naging pahayag ni House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez tungkol sa pagpapaliban ng May 2019 elections.

Ito ay matapos sabihin ng lider ng Kamara na mas ‘praktikal’ ang pagpapaliban sa eleksyon para bigyang daan ang transition para sa panukalang federalismo.

Ayon kay Sotto, kinakailangan pa munang amyendahan ng Kongreso ang 1987 constitution para lang gawing posible ang iminumungkahi ni Alvarez.

“It’s difficult because we have to amend the Constitution to do that,” ani Sotto.

Mas malaki pa anyang tanong ay kung bukas at handa ba ang mga mambabatas na gawin ito.

“That can only be possible if we will be able to amend all pertinent laws mandating elections on the second Monday of May every three years! The question is: are we willing to do that?” dagdag pa ng pangulo ng Senado.

Sinabi ni Sotto na mas magiging mahirap kung hindi magdaraos ng halalan.

Sa ilalim ng Article 6, Section 8 ng 1987 Constitution dapat idaos ang regular na halalan ng mga Senador at Kongresista tuwing ikalawang Lunes ng buwan ng Mayo.

Nang tanungin si Sotto kung mag-uusap silang dalawa ni Alvarez ay sinabi nitong nakadepende ito sa lider ng Kamara.
