Dismissal order ng Ombusman kay Rep. Garcia may bahid pulitika ayon sa Malakanyang
Duda ang palasyo ng Malakanyang sa timing ng dismissal order ng office of the ombudsman kay House Deputy Speaker Gwendolyn Garcia dahil sa kasong graft.
Paliwanag ni Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque, hindi maikakaila na pulitika ang dahilan ng dismissal order.
Gayunman, sinabi ni Roque na iginagalang naman ng palasyo ang desisyon ng Ombudsman.
Sinabi pa ni Roque na tanging ang liderato ng kongreso ang may kapangyarihan na makapagpatalsik ng kanilang miyembro sa pamamagitan ng botong 2/3 sa plenaryo.
Kapag nagpasya aniya ang pamunuan ng kongreso na hindi ipatupad ang dismissal order, walang magagawa ang Obudsman para mapaalis si Garcia.
“While we respect the findings of the Ombudsman based on the merits of the case, only Congress may suspend or remove its members based on the former’s anti-graft and corruption rulings. She cannot arrogate this power of Congress. Thus, only the House of Representatives, convened in plenary and by a two-thirds vote, can expel Deputy Speaker Garcia from its rolls. It is also unfortunate that the decision of the Ombudsman was released at a time when such actions could be given political color,” ani Roque
